Subject: Ailing Wendell Burnett can use some cheer

- --part1_a8.3a02ea4.2950e89b_boundary

Greetings, harp fans:

Veteran blues player and jazz chromatic writer Wendell Burnett could really
use some Christmas / New Year's cheer this season.

Wendell is now on full disability (early) retirement from the Detroit Fire
Department fighting an uphill battle against a lung disease called pulmonary
fibrosis.

"I would love to hear from some of the harmonica people out there that may
have known me, but didn't realize I was sick," he says.

Some of you may know Wendell from SPAH conventions in Detroit or perhaps
from
the harmonica classes he taught for many years at East Detroit Adult
Education in Eastpointe, Mich. Or perhaps you read his column on Jazz and
Blues in American Harmonica Newsmagazine over the past 12 years.

Wendell doesn't have e-mail; so if you would like his snail mail address,
send me a post and I'll send you his home address.

Harmonically, speaking thanks for any help

I dusted off my equipment and played another gig last night. We did an
impromptu version of Blue Bayou with a guest vocalist. We did it in the
key of F. I figured that should be an easy key on the chromatic, just
inhale and stay away from the B. I managed to fake it, but I find it's
hard to find my way around the chromatic. I keep forgetting where I am. I
guess I need more practice and more ear training.

Still, it was fun trying.
