Vaudeville harmonica master Hugh McCaskey was born on this day in 1922.
McCaskey grew up in Lancaster, PA, where he teamed up with Paul Steigerwald
and Manny Smith to form the Stagg McMann Trio. They recorded their only
album in 1950 and if you can find it, it's considered by many to be one of
the best records ever made by a harmonica band. After the group broke up,
McCaskey worked as a soloist and occasionally subbed with the Harmonicats.
He also helped to found the Windy City Harmonica Club in Chicago.
